World Water Day 2016

On Tuesday 22 March, Ballina Shire Council will celebrate World Water Day through the theme ‘water and jobs’.

With drought continuing to impact regional NSW, Ballina Shire Council recently announced plans to deliver its ground-breaking recycled water service starting in July 2016.

Ballina Shire Council’s Water and Wastewater Manager, Tim Mackney, said Council’s recycled water service is a breakthrough in the bid to provide sufficient water during times of drought and also ensures a sustainable water supply for future generations.

“Our first priority is to provide a recycled water service that is safe, available all year round and in times of drought, and saves ratepayers money off their water charges,” Mr Mackney said.

“Through this service, recycled water will be used for household and general purposes such as washing clothes, watering gardens, flushing toilets and cleaning vehicles.

“In a practical sense, this means more water will be preserved for essential uses such as drinking, cooking and bathing.”
